A question we hear
What is the right way to test paint and wallpaper samples?
Test at useful scale, in the intended room and through normal daylight and artificial-light conditions. Keep the shortlist movable so every candidate can be compared on more than one wall.

Technical facts
What can be verified
Product codes, dimensions, approved substrates, finish descriptions and application instructions should be checked against the current manufacturer label or technical data.
Professional judgement
What remains a recommendation
Colour relationships, atmosphere, visual balance and the order in which options are shortlisted are informed recommendations. They still need to be tested in the actual room or project.
Make paint samples movable
Apply the correct number of coats to a sizeable card or lining paper and keep a clean border. Move it between the window wall, darkest wall and fixed materials.
Read wallpaper at full scale
Unfold or hang the largest available sample. Step back to judge repeat and scale, then move close to assess texture, relief and reflectivity.
Review the combination
Compare walls, trim, ceiling, wallpaper and key materials together. A colour can work alone but fail when the full palette is assembled.
