Due to the humidity levels in bathrooms and kitchens it is advisable not to use an ordinary emulsion, but to use instead a water-based (also known as acrylic) eggshell or paints which are specially formulated for use in kitchens and bathrooms, such as Zinsser Perma White, which contain an added mildewcide to prevent mould growth. The latter is only available in white, whereas water-based eggshell is available in all colours of all paint brands.
If you come across any mould in your kitchen or bathroom, make sure that you use HG Mould Spray before you paint over, and if there are any stains, use Zinsser Cover Stain to cover them up.
