As they dry out over a long period of time, traditional oil based paints and varnishes crack and craze. Decorators and restorers can now re-create these typical ageing effects.
How to create this effect:
- Brush on a basecoat of matt or silk emulsion in Colour 1. Allow to dry.
- Apply a thick coat of Crackle Glaze in one direction. Allow to dry.
- Thin the top coat of matt emulsion (Colour 2) with a little water and brush on at right angles to the Crackle Glaze coat. The cracks will appear as it dries. Apply the matt emulsion with a loaded brush in one stroke and direction. Do not rebrush - this will spoil the effect.
- Protect with Acrylic Varnish
