Dragging is a popular and simple way to create a mock wood-grained effect, for example on skirting boards and melamine kitchen units.
How to create this effect:
- Apply Acrylic (water-based) Eggshell basecoat in the colour of your choice and allow to dry for 6-8 hours
- Mix 4 parts of Acrylic Scumble Glaze to 1 part water and add Mixol stainers of your choice till you reach the desired colour
- Put the coloured glaze into a paint kettle, and slowly add water until a cream-like consistency is achieved
- Apply a thin coat of glaze to the wall using a medium-sized synthetic brush
- Dab a stippler gently onto the surface to get rid of any brushmarks
- Use a flogging brush to go vertically down the surface to create the effect
- Protect with an acrylic varnish
