Dragging is a popular and simple way to create a mock wood-grained effect, for example on skirting boards and melamine kitchen units.

How to create this effect:

  1. Apply Acrylic (water-based) Eggshell basecoat in the colour of your choice and allow to dry for 6-8 hours
  2. Mix 4 parts of Acrylic Scumble Glaze to 1 part water and add Mixol stainers of your choice till you reach the desired colour
  3. Put the coloured glaze into a paint kettle, and slowly add water until a cream-like consistency is achieved
  4. Apply a thin coat of glaze to the wall using a medium-sized synthetic brush
  5. Dab a stippler gently onto the surface to get rid of any brushmarks
  6. Use a flogging brush to go vertically down the surface to create the effect
  7. Protect with an acrylic varnish
